The Gators didn’t get a lot of votes to win the SEC title this year. One, in fact.
They didn’t get a lot of members on the SEC preseason all-conference team, either. One first-teamer, in fact.
Cornerback Vernon Hargreaves from Tampa, who said this week that he considered himself to be the best defensive back in the country, was the only University of Florida player on the preseason list. Two other Gator defensive players were honored.
Defensive linebacker Jonathan Bullard was voted to the second team, tying for the most votes on the team. Linebacker Antonio Morrison was named to the third team.
That means that no Gator offensive player, or specialist, made it to the first, second or third teams. By comparison, the University of Alabama had 12 players selected to the teams. Auburn had nine.
It is clear that if the Gators have a breakthrough year, it will come as a surprise to the media who cover the SEC.
