Well, it beats losing.
The Tampa Bay Rowdies tied the Carolina Railhawks Saturday night, 1-1, ending a three-game losing streak in the NASL. The Rowdies, who have been challenged offensively for most of the season, have only four goals in the Fall Season.
This time, they got a go-ahead goal from Georgi Hristov, who scored on a one-timer on a cross from Darnell King. The Railhawks tied the score three minutes later, however, on a goal by Mark Anderson. Neither team could find the net again.
“In the end, it’s probably a just result,” Rowdies Head Coach Thomas Rongen said. “I’m disappointed that we gave up their goal. … We had two or three other good scoring opportunities. Our goalkeeper (Kamil Contofalsy), didn’t have to make many saves. Their goalkeeper had to come up big a couple of times.”
The Carolina goal, for instance, came when Anderson turned a kicked a bouncing ball in the six-yard box past goalkeeper Confalskiy. Tampa Bay had several scoring chances afterward but were unable to score.
Corey Hertzog had a chance in the 41st minute, but Carolina keeper Akira Fitzgerald made a save. Hertzog had another chance in the 67th minute. In the 72nd, Maicon Santos headed a corner kick by Hristov but was just wide of the goal. In the 78th minute, King had a one-on-one, but Fitzgerald got a hand on the goal.
“We came here for three points after the three losses,” Rongen said. “but I also told the team that a tie, depending on how the game goes, would be sufficient, based on the face we needed to get something positive on the
The Rowdies are home Saturday night against the Jacksonville Armada in an interstate game. The Rowdies beat Jacksonville 3-2 earlier in the season.
